Dave the Diver: The Indie Game That Just Hit 10 Million Sales and Is Coming to Mobile

Some games are built for a niche. Others, like Dave the Diver, somehow manage to capture the attention of millions across the globe. The latest milestone from developer MINTROCKET proves exactly that: the game has officially surpassed 10 million copies sold worldwide. For a title that began as a relatively niche indie project, that’s nothing short of remarkable.

A Genre Mashup That Somehow Works Perfectly

At first glance, Dave the Diver sounds like a strange combination of ideas that shouldn’t fit together. You spend your days diving into the mysterious “Blue Hole” to catch fish, then use those ingredients at night to run a sushi restaurant. It’s a loop of exploration, resource gathering, and restaurant management that sounds messy on paper—but in practice, it’s incredibly addictive.

The game blends pixel art with 3D environments, creating a visual style that feels both nostalgic and modern. Add in a healthy dose of MINTROCKET’s signature humor, and you have a game that keeps players coming back for “just one more dive” long after they’ve seen the credits.

The 10 Million Milestone: A Perfectly Timed Achievement

The timing of this announcement is no coincidence. Dave the Diver just hit 10 million sales right before its mobile version goes global on September 17. The game first launched on PC in 2022, then expanded to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The mobile version, published by XD Inc., already proved its potential in China, where it sold over 1 million copies before the global release.

What’s Fueling the Continued Success?

MINTROCKET hasn’t just released the game and walked away. Dave the Diver has been kept alive through a steady stream of free and paid DLC, including collaborations with major IPs like Godzilla, Yakuza, and Dredge. The most recent major expansion, Dave the Diver: In the Jungle, launched in June 2026 and has already sold over 1 million copies on its own, earning a 91 on OpenCritic.

That level of post-launch support is rare for indie games, and it’s a big reason why the game continues to find new audiences years after its initial release.

What Comes Next for Dave and MINTROCKET?

The studio isn’t resting on its laurels. MINTROCKET CEO and Dave the Diver producer Hwang Jae-ho has confirmed that the team is working on expanding the series further, including a cooking simulation + adventure spin-off titled Bancho. With the mobile launch about to bring the game to an even wider audience, the 10 million milestone might just be the beginning.

For a game about a guy who dives for fish and runs a sushi shop, that’s a pretty impressive legacy.
